School Doodles

I was throwing away some old school papers and didn't get very far before I realized some of them had some doodles on them. And then a few other sketches I did while I was at work on scrap papers.

little bitty pretty one

The past few weeks have been really difficult. If there's anything I'm learning from it, it's when to say no and know your limits. Sometimes you just can't do everything on your own, so don't kill yourself trying. I have a feeling that things will probably get worse before they get better. But after that, there is only one direction to go and that is up.

Anyway, there is a sketchbook that has been circulating around the store where I work with each employee adding decorating a page or two with their own artwork. The book is huge, probably about 4 inches thick. Much of what others have done in it is super nice, so when it was my turn to take it home, I knew I had to create something extra special. At first I drew, inked and colored a picture but then I decided it looked really bad and I didn't want that representing me as an artist. So I took out the page and inserted my own with a new sketch I did in a couple of hours. But it turned out great and it was five times better than what I had done before.

I'm back!!

My scanner has died, may it rest in peace. But I guess that's what I deserve for not using it enough!

^This picture has some great potential.

^This picture is like seventies love or something...

^I tried to draw my sister, but her eyes look kind of scary I think. But she has really bright eyes so I was trying to capture that sparkle.

February Fun

It has been simply too long since I last posted. So ... Here are a few doodles that I've done recently. Lately I've had a lot of inspiration to do more work and it comes from finding new magazines, artists, working on my new drawing desk and of course the mini cartoon network exhibit at the Time Warner Center! =D

Doodling on post-it-notes is all the rage.
Elvis! Is this you? No wait, seriously though...

My first ACEO...but I'm keeping it!

So I tried to make an ACEO. Yes, with all good intentions I set out to make something quick that could be sold for a couple bucks on etsy. It started with a simple sketch and then ended up taking a lot longer than I had anticipated. It's my first time painting in quite a while and I think I did a pretty good job. I think it looks super cute! Now I want to make more! But any thoughts of selling it for five bucks on etsy are now out the window, heh.

Here's one for the road

I've just discovered that scanning really dark pencil can be hard because the light bounces off the lead. But this one came out okay.

Back just in time for winter!

I've been super busy lately which has resulted in a lack of posts, but now that things have let up a little I can reveal some of the pictures I've been working on. I've added some new pieces to my portfolio and I'm working on a new layout for my website. From the time I last posted, so much crazy stuff has happened- it is amazing how you can be in one place & situation and then in a completely new one in 3-4 months of time.

All of the pictures I've added were done in Illustrator, which is pretty much my new found love when it comes to coloring. I've picked a couple favorite parts of my pictures below:

It's fun to color jewelry- and I thought ^these beads^ came out pretty well. These are taken from this picture:
I like how this bag came out. I could probably tweak it a bit more, though:

Just a few favorites. Gotta love that vector art! :)
