Preparations

Tomorrow I'll be doing some plein air painting with my class. I'm taking James Gurney's advice and preparing some sky panels ahead of time. It's my first time using cobalt drier, so I hope they come out okay! I actually had some problems creating a good sky gradient, so next time I should probably try a larger brush than about 3/4 in so it's not so "stripey."

I dont know how I feel about this! what if your sky panel is a different color than the sky on the day that you paint?

Also, you should use a fan brush to help it not be stripy.

Holly, I think for the most part it's just for sunny days. Where I am, the sky is pretty much the same blue everyday! But you can always make subtle changes to the sky before painting on it. Thanks for the fan brush idea, I should have used one of those!
